The Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation is the only NF to have applied to host the 2023 Junior World Championships. The news was confirmed by the federation’s secretary general Rossina Atanassova at a press conference for the upcoming senior Worlds, which will take place in Sofia.
„We still have no definitive answer, neither a positive, nor a negative one, I guess due to the summer holiday period. Yet I know for certain that ours is the only application, so we hope to see you next year in July.“ The BGRGF first announced it was planning to present its candidature to the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) in mid-July. If accepted, it will be the 6th major competition in Bulgaria in the history of the sport (Worlds in 1967 and 1989 in Varna), 3rd in Sofia in the last 5 years (Worlds in 2018 and 2022), and 4th in Bulgaria, as Varna also hosted the Europeans in 2021.
As it’s known, the very first Junior World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics took place in Moscow in 2019. The event was supposed to take place every 2 years, but COVID and the rescheduling of the Olympics overwhelmed the 2021 calendar and the 2nd edition was pushed to next year. Just like the first one, it will feature both junior individuals and groups.
